Saturday, March 15, 2014The North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) Volleyball Confederation continues to invest in Jamaica's volleyball with its latest gesture being the provision of a coach from Brazil to the Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA).
Coach Augusto Sabbatini will be in Jamaica on a month-long visit starting today and he is expected to assist in the further strengthening of the development thrust of volleyball in Jamaica.
Over the past three years, among the local association's accomplishments are the school development programme, the Just bet-sponsored beach league and the introduction of the primary school league.
However, the most impressive accomplishment to date is the qualification of duo Shavar Bryan and Rojey Hutchinson for the Youth Olympics slated for China.
In addition, the senior girls are hoping to successfully complete their final round of qualifying in Canada to make it to the World Championships which will be held in Italy.
The new JaVA administration headed by Steve Brown has continued to garner support for the sport. Brown has been engaging corporate Jamaica in an effort to acquire sponsorship to continue the development started by the previous administration headed by Major Warrenton Dixon.
