Jamaica go down 3-0 to Suriname in CAZOVA Under-18

SPANISH TOWN, July 24, 2019 - Host Jamaica went down 3-0 to Suriname in the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association girls' Under-18 at GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport on Wednesday.

The host fought hard in the first set and gave up the other two easily to lose 27-25, 25-10, 25-7 and diminish their chances of being the automatic qualifier for the semi-finals from Group A.

Jamaica lost their opening match against United States Virgin Islands (USVI) 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) while Suriname defeated the USVI 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17) on Tuesday.

Janice Valies, Suriname's head coach, said, "we had to change our rotation because of minor injuries and we experimented a little. They performed better than I expected as they really showed that they are able to adapt to change."

Jamaica's coach Shedeiky Hamilton-Barnes, said, "I think the game plan was working in the first set as we decided that most times they hit cross court, so this morning in training we worked on defending the cross courts hit and it was working for us in the first set.

"I think that as the first set closed and they lost it, they got demotivated and I was trying my very best to motivate them so that they can lift their spirit, but they got into themselves and too emotional and couldn't play hard enough," Hamilton-Barnes said.
