CIVF Raises the Profile of Volleyball

 

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, February 13, 2020 - The gymnasium of the First Baptist Volleyball Club was buzzing with inspired minds on Sunday, February 09, 2020 as almost 50 participants attended the first ever CIVF "Know the Game" volleyball clinic to kick off the 2020 volleyball season and prepare for the upcoming PVC League.


The session was conducted by CIVF Referee Instructor, Mr. Fareed Hosein under the guidance of Technical Director, Mr. Javid Ali. Mr. Hosein was delighted with the turnout. “The great attendance signifies the growth of the sport in the Cayman Islands.” He further noted “considering the many tournaments and leagues currently held on island, there’s a definite need for these types of sessions, both in play and in officiating capacities”.

Upcoming and experienced players alike attended to represent various teams and clubs from First Baptist Volleyball Club, Knights Volleyball Club, and the Philippine Volleyball Club. CIVF Youth Director, Mrs. Cindy Joe also attended and was delighted to see quite a few aspiring young athletes from the youth development programmne come out to gain valuable knowledge and understanding of the rules of the game.


Volleyball videos were played to support lively discussions and participants demonstrated examples on the court. The session ended with interested participants remaining for another half hour to learn more amount how to become or improve their referee skills.

This will be the first of many sessions to come, stated CIVF President, Kennedy McGowan, adding “CIVF will be putting on a series of clinics in 2020 to facilitate development of indoor and beach volleyball players, coaches and referees, with the aim of raising the profile of the game”. Technical Director, Javid Ali, expressed his commitment to build on the success of this first event, with plans underway to organize another event, "Know the Game...Beach Edition” at the enhanced and expanded 7-Mile Public Beach volleyball courts, in the near future.
